Hope vs Wishing

We are in a time when the world is reaching out for something to hold on to. When a person is drowning he struggles to find something solid to pull himself out on. If you don't find something soon you will drown. We hear people say “I hope I'll be ok." Hope in the minds of many is simply a wish. Wish has no stability or weight to it. There is wish and hope. What is the difference between the two? Matthew 7:24-27 talks about two different foundations, one on a rock the other on sand. A storm came and one stayed strong the other fell. Many believe we are in a storm today with COVID-19. Great fear has come with it. God warned us it was coming. Isaiah 60:2 talks about a darkness coming upon the earth. This darkness means death, sorrow, and wickedness. Is this not what we are seeing today? A man killed a postal worker because she didn't bring him his stimulus check. He had put his hope in the government. Really he was wishing it would come that day. When it didn’t he took out his frustration on the worker. No stability in the government brought about wickedness, sorrow, and death. People are wishing for a cure for COVID-19 yet people are dying daily. Many are just wishing that the virus misses them. There are people with the virus wishing they get healed and not die. Is wishing ok then? We say not really. It’s fun to wish. It is fun to throw a coin into a wishing well and wish for something. But it, wishing, has no substance to it. Hope is different. I should say Godly hope. This hope has weight, substance, and power to it. There was a lady in the bible that had blood issues. She did everything she could to solve it the normal way. Doctors could not help her. She wished they could, to a point of spending all she had, but they couldn’t. Now here is the difference; she heard of Jesus. Now, she had hope, not a wish but a living hope. Jesus has something the doctors do not. Hope is a light in a dark room. All you have to do is get there. Wishing is in the same room with no light. You have to feel your way out. It may or may not happen. Hope breaks through the darkness and say’s come to me, I am the way. Jesus came into the world to give us hope. Without Him we could only wish we are ok. Have you ever heard anyone say “I sure do hope I get into to heaven, that’s all we can do.” They are feeling their way around doing the best they can to get in. Jesus say’s “I am the way, the truth, and the light…” Jesus says not matter what it is I Am. He says I am a sure thing, I am not a wish. I am your

Hope.
